Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

08 Mar 2023A good walk, mainly on small quiet roads but a few stretches across fields with gates and stiles. There is a small, pop-up basic campsite as you leave Kingsbridge on the left side. Great views across the Kingsbridge Ria.

29 May 2022As per previous reviewer’s comments, this route is not accessible for all as it involves stiles, steps, uneven ground in places & steep gradients - the latter being typical of the area.
The route follows quiet country lanes out of Kingsbridge - even in half term only a couple of cars passed - & has some pretty steep gradients. The road crosses a couple of pretty creeks.
Beyond Blanksmill the route turns onto a public footpath. Crops across the path (reported to highway authority) in a couple of fields. Not too high to be impassable though. Could also avoid by following field edge if liked, but more uneven ground.
Footbridge with steps over stream at Ilton Castle Farm and steps also up to track. Next field was being grazed by cows at time walked. Great views over estuary.
The route again follows a quiet lane before taking a public footpath towards Batson. A permissive alternative path, signed before reaching the footpath, avoided a short section of the lane, although the official footpath route was still available - both following mown paths through a lovely meadow. Across two further fields with great views of Batson Creek (cattle grazing in last field).
Past the pretty hamlet of Batson the route follows a footpath - a little boggy at start - through trees around Shadycombe then pavements into Salcombe (passing the stop for the bus back to Kingsbridge).
A really good walk with lovely views over the AONB. A beautiful approach to Salcombe. Very quiet & peaceful.

27 Jan 2022At the start point in Kingsbridge (bus station/information centre) there are public toilets and cafes. The route is mainly on narrow, quiet lanes (roads). It is suitable for wheels as far as Blanks Mill bridge but then it turns off road into fields which include steep gradients, stiles, a footbridge and some boggy ground. Views of the estuary are lovely. Once in Salcombe there are public toilets and plenty of cafes and shops.
