Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

I walked this route from Milnathort to Kinross and returned on route one making a nice circular afternoon walk. It is a scenic route with a castle, views of Bishop Hill and Loch Leven. Both Kinross and Milnathort have cafés, shops and hotels.

The route leaves Milnathort townhall heading east through the town and turning on to the Burleigh Castle road. There is a good footpath alongside the road, but the road does need to be crossed just before the castle to stay on the pavement and then recrossed just after and then crossed again to join the footpath heading south to the old railway route. From here on the route is on off road paths just until you enter Kinross. There is a short flight of steps leaving the old railway which makes this route difficult for wheelers. A road is crossed to reach the car park at Burleigh Sands and then the path follows the Loch Leven Trail to Kirkgate. There are some bird hides that can be visited on this section to see the wildlife of the Loch. On reaching Kirkgate, traverse the park and join the road with a marked pedestrian section to head into Kinross. This road was busy on Easter Sunday when I walked the path, but is generally much quieter.

I give this route 4 stars because of the road crossings at Burleigh Castle. Care must be taken here.
