Description
Undeniably a road walk but one with some variety. A pleasant set back tree lined pavement at Nuthall then the old quieter road. Phoenix park offers a path by the tram linking to Bagnall Road and onward through Basford passing the parish church. A McDonalds may tempt a pause before a once busy road and the first unavoidable climb to meet the tram route which is generally followed to the city passing the Forest, Arboretum and student quarter

11 Sep 2023Undeniably a road walk but direct and with some variety. A pleasant set back tree lined pavement at Nuthall, the cinder path, then the old quieter road. Phoenix Park offers a path by two tram stops then steps or a snake like slope to Bagnall Road and onward through Basford passing the parish church. A McDonalds may tempt a pause before a once busy road and the first unavoidable climb to meet the tram route which is generally followed to the city. A superstore offers services including a loo. There is a significant climb alongside the Forest then we follow the tram down Waverley Street, passing the Arboretum and through the student quarter. Safe road crossing and a route ideal for wheels (mobility and child).

27 Aug 2023 (edited 28 Aug 2023)Walked from Nottingham to Kimberley on a cloudy and sometimes drizzly late summer Sunday morning - I enjoyed the quiet early morning start in central Nottingham before the crowds were out, made even quieter by the engineering work that stopped any trams running between the Market Square and Wilkinson Street.
This is a good direct route, entirely on pavements and surfaced paths apart from one set of steps at the Cinderhill tram stop, which can easily be avoided using a longer ramped path, so the route is fully accessible too. There are plenty of facilities and bus and tram stops. The downside is that it is mostly a road walk, though it is shorter, quieter and more varied and interesting than KIMNOT 1 (though the Strelley section of that route is interesting). After finishing this one I returned to Nottingham by walking a longer but greener version which I have submitted as KIMNOT 3. I think all three routes should be able to co-exist.
From the Council House in Nottingham, we head up Queen Street past the statue of Old Big 'Ead, cross the main roads on zebra and pelican crossings and go left of the Theatre Royal to head up Goldsmith Street/Waverley Street, which leads past Trent University, the Arboretum and the High School to the top of the Forest, which offers some brief relief from pavements. Beyond the Forest we cross Gregory Boulevard and follow the tram lines up Noel Street. The straight line continues onto Radford Road, and we cross the ring road then head left over the railway and the Leen at Church Street.
More easy pavement walking takes us out through Basford to Cinderhill, where we cross the tram bridge and descend to the tram station (either directly down steps or using the long easily angled ramp). A path alongside and on the south side of the tram lines takes us under Cinderhill Road and out to the Phoenix Park tram terminus, where we head left, crossing the A610 at a pelican crossing then turn right along the old main road. After passing a few shops, pubs and fast food outlets we follow the Rainbow bus route to the roundabout, where a cycle track takes us through a subway to rejoin the old main road at the far side. Here the pavement path diverges a little from the road to pass through trees, before we rejoin the main road and follow it under the M1 and into Kimberley.
