Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

22 Aug 2021For most of the route, this follows National Cycle Network Route 7 and is generally a well-marked tarmac cycle path. It is a nice route that passes beside the Rivers Irvine and Garnock and the Garnock Floods nature reserve.
The majority of the route is wheelchair accessible, apart from a short stretch at the start of the route in Kilwinning, where the route moves away from the route of National Cycle Network Route 7. This is why I have given 4 stars instead of 5. The route has stairs and is narrower at this point. However, this can be bypassed by following NCN7, since it meets up again with this route.
The start of the route at Kilwinning also involves a short stretch of quiet road with no pavement but this soon moves onto a traffic-free path.
There are also some road crossings to be aware of, particularly as you approach the Irvine end of the walk. Particular care should be taken where the route crosses Sandy Road/B779.
