05 Nov 2023Very enjoyable route linking these two lovely Wharfedale villages. Makes good use of the Dales Way, which is mostly well signposted.
As other reviewers have noted, there are many stiles which require a degree of agility (or plain old heave-ho) to negotiate. As a not-very-agile walker I found them a challenge, but not enough to drop a star.
Other reviewers have also noted that the path through fields at Grassington is hard to navigate. For anyone wanting an easy-to-follow option which bypasses the fields, I’m adding a photo showing the line of an excellent alternative, which follows a lovely walled grassy lane all the way up to the moor, where a very obvious path takes you uphill to rejoin the main Dales Way.
Expect sheep and possibly some cows (depending on time of year). There were still a few out and about today (November 5th).
Excellent refreshments at both ends, but nothing in between, so take something along.

21 Apr 2023Much easier from Grassington to Kettlewell than vice versa as the footpath into Grassington (around the farm) can become a bit vague. Other than that a great route of well used footpaths & well signed along the Dales Way.

27 May 2022Nice route over the moors and great views, but lots of stiles, some with the added complication of a gate meant this was quite challenging, even for someone who is relatively young and fit. Quite exposed at the top.

13 May 2022Stunning walk across the moors above Wharfedale following the route of the Dales Way
Upon leaving Grassington, it can be a little tricky to find the correct route onto the moor as you bypass a dairy farm - and route finding on the moor may be tricky if visibility is poor.
After a relatively steep descent and a short bit of walking on the road, the path diverts over multiple small fields of sheep - there are multiple (10+) small squeeze gap stiles with swing gates which can be tricky if you are carrying a large rucksack or have tired legs!.
