Caught bus to Ipplepen (hourly) and walked back to Newton Abbot. First two-thirds on undulating country lanes with high hedges - some views of Dartmoor, Denbury Hill and countryside. Lanes are quiet, but very narrow - if walkers meet any cars it would be necessary to squeeze into hedge - so not suitable for wheelchairs or buggies. Unfortunately pub in East Ogwell closed after fire in April 2021. Public toilets in village. Last third of walk across Ogwell Common with two stiles and steeply down through woods to River Lemon - muddy and slippery after rain, then along paths through park and town to walk end. Alternative route from Ogwell down Mill Lane to River Lemon could be considered.

This is an enjoyable route. Walking towards Newton Abbot the last part is off-road with a good view and a woodland walk along the river before going into town. I didn't give it four stars simply because of the amount of lane walking that some people may not like. There are stiles. I personally found it all very acceptable though and will happily recommend it to others.

02 May 2021 Spring

I did this Hobbit style (there and back again!). Had some difficulty finding my way onto the right path out of Newton Abbot as there are many paths through the parkland it traverses, and so walked slightly more than the distance. Also found the wrong road out of east Ogwell, which was a little busier with traffic. The correct road, found on the way back, was peaceful. So for the nav difficulties I gave it 3 stars, but it was a lovely walk. To be fair I was using an out of date OS map. Around 30% off road. Ogwell Mill Ford is not passable with a wheelchair, and there's a path in the park with a tree down across it, ditto.
