Lots of ancient byways to discover. The end bit near A38 junction is tricky as no pavement....
I parked in Ipplepen near the Community Hub (Church) there are parking spots on the main road in Ipplepen. To start you walk through the centre of Ipplepen, there are pavements but not consistently so there will be road walking. Crossing the road you head through the centre of Luscombe Close and pick up another footpath that runs through houses, again signposted. Walking up a narrow country road to Wrigwell you pass some picturesque cottages. Stepping over a gate and meeting a road and crossing over Tanyard Lane, this is the beginning of muddy and deep rutted path which is signposted. Coming to the road you head straight up and turn right at the next turning! Once having followed the the hedge along the field and gone through another gate next to an old stone stile, the path will lead you to Ipplepen Road. The path to Ipplepen Road has roots sticking out of the ground, a couple of gates to go through and a few steps down onto Ipplepen Road. On the home stretch, walking down Ipplepen Road there is a mix of road walking and pavements...

This appears to follow the same route as Ipptor one and therefore has the same access issue at East Linhay. The plotted route which would cross the A380 is not a public way. I do not recommend....

To avoid this requires quite a deviation in order to find a safe crossing of the A380 dual carriageway and therefore a different way from there into Torquay. From Ipplepen the route initially follows footpath and quiet lanes but then picks up a lovely bridleway. The way continues on unmetalled or quiet lanes. Instead I followed a bridleway that runs parallel to the A380, it’s behind a hedge but noisy. It continues as an unmetalled road, restricted to non motorised traffic, to Marldon where a pedestrian underpass at Marldon five lanes runabout enables safe crossing (follow the John Musgrave Heritage Trail or Torbay Totnes Trail waymarks)....

I would not recommend this route as there is an access issue at East Linhay - the plotted route to and across the A380 is not a recorded public highway and a sign at the entrance makes clear that it is private....

As other reviewers have said it is almost entirely on road although a good proportion of the roads are unmetalled green lanes & the rest are very quiet country lanes. The unmetalled lanes up out of Totnes are steep but particularly peaceful....

From Ipplepen to Broadhempston the route largely follows Bucipp two. Leaving Ipplepen the route is on pavement or wide village road (there is an option to instead follow a footpath through the churchyard (Bucipp two) and rejoin the slow way, but it does have a stile). The route follows an off-road footpath crossing the road and continuing as pavement & separate footpath to and across part of Orley Common - the footpath shown on OS mapping does not reflect what’s on the ground but the route is very clear. The route continues on quiet lanes to Torbryan then field footpaths to Broadhempston....

Buckfastleigh and Ipplepen have good public transport links, grocery shops, cafés and pubs, and there are several pubs en route. There was water running down the steeper paths and some large puddles, but still passable in walking boots. The Am Brook water meadow lived up to its name though, so I would recommend walking this route when conditions less likely to cause flooding. From Woolston Green the route follows a public footpath through Beara (pedestrian gap next to electric gate which probably shouldn’t be there - photo 8 - but well signed and easy to follow through yard- photo 9) then quiet lanes to Broadhempston - a good refreshment stop (can recommend the cake from the, extremely well-stocked, community shop! The route then follows public footpaths to Torbryan. A public footpath is then signed on the northern side of the road partway along....

Walk this routeI wasn’t sure how to rate this route as it is a good route on the whole, but it has to fail as a slow way due to an access issue east of Woolston Green, Landscove....

Last third of walk across Ogwell Common with two stiles and steeply down through woods to River Lemon - muddy and slippery after rain, then along paths through park and town to walk end....

Walking towards Newton Abbot the last part is off-road with a good view and a woodland walk along the river before going into town....

The only reason why I'm not giving it four stars is because it's entirely on (quiet green) lanes and some people may be uncomfortable with that....

Had some difficulty finding my way onto the right path out of Newton Abbot as there are many paths through the parkland it traverses, and so walked slightly more than the distance....
