Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

Really lovely path through the forest from Invergarry to Bridge of Oich, then canal towpath into Fort Augustus. Very clear path and well way marked as part of the Great Glen Way. The canal towpath is a little hard on the feet at the end of a long day.

Hi Liz! Thanks so much for your review. Would you mind transfering your review over to this route version https://beta.slowways.org/Route/Invfor/11236/#reviews which deals with a small access issue at Oich?

Simple to navigate, just follow the Great Glen Way (Invergarry Link). An easy towpath walk from Fort Augustus to Aberchalder Bridge, with a tougher, more hilly section from Aberchalder to Invergarry.

You have to use the road bridge to cross the River Oich, as the crossing over the Bridge of Oich as shown on the route map is through a private house. There is a pavement on the road bridge though. When Loch Oich is high use the south side of the towpath between Aberchalder and Cullochy Lock to avoid a weir.
