Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

14 Feb 2023I'm giving this five stars because I had a great day out. But a note of caution, it's a long day with no cafes and some navigation challenges.
I did this from Innerleithen to Gorebridge. Out of Innerleithen is great, nice paths off the road but still direct.
Turning off the road and past Leithen Lodge, I'd recommend just following the Bowbeat wind farm signs/track. Occasionally the specified GPS route puts you into the thick forest, which has reclaimed the (now unused) footpath.
Once at the far end of the wind farm you get to the navigation challenge. There are various ATV tracks across the hill. It's only about 1km without any defined path, but an OS map (or the app) and knowledge of contour lines makes it easier/possible.
Once you pick up the path again, it's easy walking al the way. Drop down and follow the river out towards Moorfoot. When you come out on the road ignore the route and turn right, following the sign to Huntley Cot. This just avoids walking through the field/house garden.
The next tricky bit is out of Temple and looking for the path under Braidwood Bridge. The path forward goes under the bridge. There's a very steep way down directly at the edge of the bridge, but it's really steep. A better way is about 15m before the bridge, there are wooden steps down but you have to look for them in the trees.
This is a long day out (for me 7h), but beautiful views, adventurous, and a great alternative view of the Moorfoots.
