Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

13 Nov 2024 (edited 15 Nov 2024)There doesn't appear to be any pavement or much verge on the A286 between where this route joins it and Cocking. High traffic levels, high speed limit and limited amount of space available when cars pass all look pretty grim on Google Street View. There's no way I would deliberately walk it, and no need either with a good footpath then Crypt Lane (no through traffic) cutting across that corner. That part lasts about 1km but HorMid 1 stays on the A286 for 4km right into Midhurst. There does seem to be a pavement, mostly, but it swaps sides and has narrowed significantly. Being that close up against a fast busy road would be unnerving at best.
A lesser concern is the mid-route dependence on small lanes when multiple traffic free cross country alternatives are available. And it's quite loosely drawn which is unhelpful and could be misleading in places e.g. Hooksway.
I've uploaded another version that's almost entirely different going further north. It has very little road walking, includes Midhurst Common and Harting Down and passes several pubs and bus stops. Hopefully it'll work. Or you could keep the bones of this route (and all the lane walking) but lose the A286 and use the northern part of EmsMid 1 instead from where they cross.
