Description

This route is likely to be drier than Hoohec one in wet conditions.
The route ends at Heckfield, a Slow Ways node. However, as at March 2022, there is no public transport available from Heckfield and only limited facilities there. The route itself is generally good. The route is attractive and fairly easy to follow, with an unusual section passing through a garden centre/nursery (marked with their own green and yellow signs). There are a number of stiles and gates and the busy B3349 needs to be crossed twice so, even in dry conditions, the route would not be considered suitable for wheels

I can only add to previous reviews that the entry to the garden centre 2.5km from Heckfield is far from intuitive. The is a wooden door to open to get inside as shown on the first photo. The garden centre also has a small cafe inside.
My experience of the trip was marked by wet ground conditions and I couldn't help but get my shoes soaked several times esp. when the route turns off Bottle Lane into woods and on the last stretch between Rotherwick and the edge of Hook. I also found one disused and one still open pub in Rotherwick - see the third photo.
I would not recommend walking this route after a spell of wet weather. Otherwise, it was an enjoyable trip and the route was safe and easy to follow.

I really enjoyed walking/running this Slow Ways route. The description is a good summary.

I loved seeing lots of bluebells, wildgarlic and even a hedgehog on the route.

I'd certainly walk it again! Thank you for sharing it mgabgt.
