Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

29 Jul 2024 (edited 31 Jul 2024)Walked from Hinckley to Earl Shilton. An excellent direct route, easy to follow. Dry in summer conditions, but could be muddy when wet. No stiles or steps.
From the meeting point in Hinckley we head north up Regent Street, then right onto Stockwell Head, which we remain on after the main road turns left, heading up quite a steep hill, then straight on on Wood Street, then taking an alleyway left (Church Walk) back to the main road. We turn right and then more or less straight on to the edge of Hinckley, taking a tarmac path between fences where Bradgate Road heads off to the left. The tarmac soon gives way to compacted soil, and we cross a golf course on a fairly well marked path.
The golf course appears to have been extended a bit into Burbage Common, but this does not affect the footpath lines. Further into the common there is a profusion of paths of varying quality, so it is worth keeping a close eye on the map without taking the right of way lines too literally. Some of the paths through the common look as if they are quite muddy in wet conditions. Eventually you should reach a railway bridge - stay on the north side of the railway and follow the paths closest to it and you should reach Burbage Common Road easily.
A short section of road takes us onto a farm access track, which we follow through the farm yard then continue dead straight, initially through fields then on the unimaginitively named Bridle Path Road. There is a pelican crossing over the Earl Shilton bypass (Clickers Lane) and we cross and head straight on along Station Road. Eventually we reach a T junction and turn left, to the meeting point by the Methodist church.

13 Nov 2022The Slow Way with some of the straightest paths I've ever walked. A stroll through the stops and shops of Hinckley before a residential street takes you to the edge. A well marked combination of paths across a golf course, through a wood and then across a common deliver you to a very straight combination of paths and roads to the centre of Earl Shilton. No safety concerns and very easy to follow. Lots of rest and refreshment options at either end. Recommended!.
