01 Aug 2025 Summer

I walked from Prestwood to High Wycombe on a warm summers day.
The route is mapped well but the paths differ from the map on the ground, a little common sense and you won't get lost.
Lovely walk, wonderful views which mean hills, some quite steep.
I lunched on a log in Piggots Wood, but in a few weeks the plums, blackberries, hazelnuts, sloes and damsons will all be ripe- just snack on the way.
Some monotonous road walking but overall a stunning walk.

01 May 2025 Spring

I walked from Prestwood to High Wycombe on a beautiful sunny day in April. There were patches of bluebells, buttercups, a mix of woodland and open field, and parkland in Hughenden Park. No stiles. Plenty of up and down in the first half. Overall the route in this direction is down (see profile). It's a pleasant way to walk into Wycombe. Cafes at both ends.
I walked to the centre of Wycombe rather than the train station, and it was 11.7 km.
Beware there are a few dead ends on the gpx, so beware of walking a few metres only to turn around and go back. That is the only reason I haven't given the route 5 stars.

This route was awesome! I thought the departure from High Wycombe was really pleasant, and then the walk through the area around the Higherden Manor was gorgeous! There were just so many stretches of lovely hills, open countryside, enchanting wooded areas, etc. I really thought this was a fantastic route with varied country; it was very enjoyable.

Be warned: there's some good hills on this route, both up and down, and I was in the same field as several cows on at least two occasions.

Overall, I really loved this route!

Photos:

1) Walk out of High Wycombe passed through residential areas, but quickly got to quiet greenery
2-3) Hughenden park area was gorgeous!
4-5) countryside is gorgeous!
6) Cows on the hillside in the same area as the route
7) Typical woods portion of this route
8) The route is a bit hilly, so be warned!.

06 Aug 2021 Summer

We had a very enjoyable walk from Prestwood to High Wycombe, mostly through fields and woodland. Following the path in this direction, there's more downhill than uphill. At this time of year (August) the path on the west side of Hampden Road is a little overgrown, with the nettles, brambles and thistles being quite noticeable for someone wearing shorts (as I was), but apart from that the walk was very straightforward and easy to follow.

It is slightly odd to start at Prestwood rather than Great Missenden, a better train/bus hub. However, the walk is pleasant and pretty easy to follow, with a couple of steepish up and down sections at the start. It brings you back close to Hughenden Manor, where there are a number of alternative routes back to Wycombe. Most of the walking is on paths, which may become muddy, especially in the woods.

Village coffee shop at south end of Hughenden Valley, and café in Hughenden Manor stableyard.
