Aamwalk

26 Jun 2024 Summer

I walked from Hayes to Southall on a lovely sunny June morning. (I had combined this with the Southall to Northolt route – and then a bus back to Hayes).
This is an okay route as you go through a mixture of residential, light industry and green spaces. It was also more rubbish strewn at the Hayes end. The earlier reviews are still accurate and the photos a good representation of the route so I will focus on adding extra details or bits that stood out to me.
You join the canal towpath on the northside down a flight of steps, you can also walk along Western View road to miss this out. At the steep Bulls Bridge you head north on the Paddington canal section. You pass The Green Quarter housing development, which may add a new dimension once finished. It is a shame you cannot directly access Minet Country Park on the western side.
I then turned off and joined the Uxbridge Road/The Broadway (into Southall) from the south side up Bankside, but you can also use the northside exit and see a colourful mural of local sites on the bridge wall (see photo).

An okay urban walk.

I walked from Southall to Hayes.
From the Three Horseshoes there is a busy bustling High Street with bright shops. Then a short path onto the canal. Good grit path all the way. Walked in the spring and the route was full of blossom and flowers. There are bridges where the canals cross and you turn 90º and steps taking you up onto Hayes High Street. Otherwise it is easy to navigate, flat canal path all the way.

Really pleasant Slow Way from Hayes to Southall Town Hall. Variety of smooth canal two paths and the wide pavements of Southall Broadway and Hayes. We walked it in reverse and it was still easy to follow.

It was quite quiet along the canal, only met a handful of people - all of who said hello!.

A very practical straight forward walk between Hayes & Southall via the Grand Union Canal. Southall end is via high street which can be busy otherwise a quiet canal side walk. Paths are good and clear of major puddles and mud (our trial of this Slow Way was after a period of heavy rain). There were steps to and from the canal at the Hayes end.

I walked this route from Southall to Hayes. I have absolutely no complaints. It’s a great route. The road through Southall is fairly big but the walking environment is pleasant, then most of the rest of the route follows canal towpaths. It’s largely uninspiring scenery (lots of industrial land), but quite interesting to walk through and still lots of nature to appreciate. Really straightforward and solid walk.

Just look out for swans at the canal entrance point near the Southall end!.

This route mainly follows the Grand Union canal and there’s only one main turn to make at the canal junction which makes it very easy to follow. Good paths, nearly all paved, generally flat and no gates. Also note there is no lighting along the way.
