Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

17 Jul 2021I walked a large section of this from Hailsham to Cooden Beach on 16th July. As I haven't completed the route, I won't submit a survey.
This route is a bit of an adventure, starting along Marshfoot Lane into the Pevensey Levels. I was immediately confronted with a ESCC sign saying the byway was closed due to "unsuitable condition of the path" ... needless to say, it was fine and dry. The Levels are quiet, lonely and atmospheric and were the haunts of smugglers and poachers in the past. The footpaths are overgrown and indistinct in places, with some diversions not shown on my map. Also, the meadows are used for grazing sheep and cattle. The cattle were quite frisky, chasing back and forth as I passed them which may not be everybody's cup of tea.
The Lamb at Hooe on the A259 is a good place for refreshments. The road itself is very busy so you have to be patient and careful when crossing.
I didn't carry on from Cooden to Bexhill but I have walked it before. The route is along the top of the beach, across shingles at the start and finishing with the promenade at Bexhill.
