Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

05 Jan 2025I looked at Guiyea One on the map and thought... no... it's just a road walk along Queensway. Guiyea Three looked altogether more interesting. The Engine Fields are signposted from the town hall in Yeadon and are quickly reached. Although surrounded by built-up areas, there are enough trees to screen these from view. The Yeadon to Guiseley Railway Path is a great little route, though it's clear that the path runs at a higher level than the original railway line, as the tunnels are now so low. The final parts of the walk try to find paths through housing estates, but end up following roads into Guiseley, finishing at the railway station. However, I left town along Guiotl One for Otley instead.

09 Aug 2024The start and finish sections were urban. The central section was through a tunnel of trees along both sides of a (tarmacked) disused railway. Overall it is quite an acceptable route between the two town centres.

06 Aug 2024Although Guiseley has the busy A65 running through it, there were many independent coffee shops on the interesting main and side streets. Once off the main road it became quieter through residential streets before getting onto the old railway which gave welcome shade on a hot day. At the end of this it was interesting to reach the Engine Fields with a bench just over the bridge. It was then back to residential and the shops of Yeadon. NB Take care crossing Kirk Lane/Well Lane which had very fast traffic on it.

05 Aug 2024A surprisingly pleasant route through urban areas much of which was along a disused railway line converted into cycle and foot path through a nature reserve. Very short route so no real routing problems although without a map you could get lost amongst the many paths available. Very pleasant.

22 Aug 2022Nice route along the old railway line. It feels very secluded even though you are very close into town at all points. Good surface all the way but be aware of the barriers at each end of the path that may prevent wheelchairs etc. from getting through.

19 Apr 2022This is a good Slow Way route.
It is slightly further than Guiyea One, but the dismantled railway line is an enjoyable path to follow and worth the extra steps.

08 Feb 2022This route takes in the path/cycleway along the old Yeadon branch line. It is largely green but with good surfaces. Very popular with walkers, cyclists and dog-walkers.
The pathway is severely distorted by tree routes at the Yeadon end - care needed by those on wheels.
