Connect Guiseley with Slow Ways
We’re creating a network of walking routes that connect all of Britain’s towns, cities and national parks
more walks and reviews are needed to fully connect Guiseley to the verified network. Can you give a hike and help?
Give a hike!Help connect Guiseley
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Guiseley’s Slow Ways.

The weather was dreadful and I've known much better days on that part of Ilkley Moor, but on the other hand I also walked from Ilkley to Burley during Storm Desmond, and that takes some beating!...

Having walked Slow Ways from Otley to Yeadon and Yeadon to Guiseley at the end of the year, the plan was to finish the day with the Slow Way from Guiseley back to Otley. A farm access road is followed beside a quarry, then it's important to watch carefully to spot a stone step stile onto a footpath....
Paddy Dillon
The Yeadon to Guiseley Railway Path is a great little route, though it's clear that the path runs at a higher level than the original railway line, as the tunnels are now so low....
Paddy Dillon
The central section was through a tunnel of trees along both sides of a (tarmacked) disused railway. Overall it is quite an acceptable route between the two town centres....

5*+ for the first half over stunning Ilkley Moor with its natural rock sculptures, balanced by a 4 for the second, bit less than, half which was more urban/suburban, and the final mile in Guiseley was a bit tedious, but worth it for the moor....
Dave Taylor
Although Guiseley has the busy A65 running through it, there were many independent coffee shops on the interesting main and side streets....

After coming off the moor and crossing Moor Road, the walk into Menston was clear and varied along paths and lanes. The station at Menston was a delight and as the Slow Ways route from Menston to Guiseley wasn't as exceptional as the rest of the walk an option could be to get a train for this last part of the route or to return to Ilkley by train....

Once you leave the busy roads of Guiseley, peac3 descends. It is now a nature park, founded by Albert Shutt of the Aireborough Civic Society....

What a beautiful walk. We ascended up into the moors with lovely views across the valley, amongst beautiful purple heather. We briefly looked in the mill shop which sold beautiful blankets and cushions among other things....

A surprisingly pleasant route through urban areas much of which was along a disused railway line converted into cycle and foot path through a nature reserve. Very short route so no real routing problems although without a map you could get lost amongst the many paths available. Very pleasant....

Once the height of the Moor is reached, the path follows the contour to make for a very pleasant three hours. Eventually the walker descends into Menston and then Guiseley and follows a busy road to the main shopping street. This busy road is of interest because of the huge weaving mill of Abraham Moon and the walker mustn't pass by the opportunity of visiting the factory shop staffed by the immaculately dressed assistants selling top class (and cheap) weaved woollen products....
Michael
The walk over to Guiseley then also includes a good view of the runway of Leeds Bradford Airport....

Good surface all the way but be aware of the barriers at each end of the path that may prevent wheelchairs etc. from getting through....

Going over the bridge in Baildon can be a bit sketchy as the road is narrow and there is no footpath so take care traffic isn't coming from both directions....

Wanting to see something green and get away from the busy road, I cut through Nunroyd Park and then along Kirk Road instead...

It is slightly further than Guiyea One, but the dismantled railway line is an enjoyable path to follow and worth the extra steps....
danravenellison
The only reason I have not given it 4 stars is because it's not fully accessible... but if I could give it an x-factor star for being great fun and beautiful I would!...

It would be great if someone could suggest another route option that is both easier and more accessible....

From the top of the Chevin, giving fantastic views to the North the route is then steep, down steps and paths into Otley....

The route is direct but mainly on roads. OK for those on wheels....
John Binks
The pathway is severely distorted by tree routes at the Yeadon end - care needed by those on wheels....

This route can feel a little daunting when you start to ascend the Otley Chevin 'Stairway to Heaven' which can take on a sort of hypnotic quality with each step and you are rewarded with fine views at the top from Surprise View. However coming down is a bit of a dream. Not one for wheelchairs or pushchairs, but uses established paths and a bit of road walking in Guiseley....

The short road walk in Guiseley is not beautiful, but look out for the clock tower in Netherfield Road car park which is all that is left of the Crompton Parkinson Factory (demolished 2006)....
