10 Jan 2024A perfectly adequate route between these two towns. There is a fairly steep cobbled section near the Hyndburn Brook crossing which can be slippy. The route is easy to follow and the diversion to Mercer Park is well worth taking as it provides welcome green space. I would also extend the footpath section along the back of Willow Close to Chapel Street instead of using Cross Street. Unfortunately the whole experience was spoilt by litter for a significant proportion of the route.

11 May 2023Probably the best offroad route between the towns, I used it for many years walking to work. Consider a small divert at the Clayton end to take a look at the Mercer Park and All Saints Church if you have time.

02 Jan 2022Leaving Great Harwood there are some interesting old buildings. After crossing the urban greenway there is a short stretch of very run-down industrial zone, followed by a longer section which is better maintained. A pleasant gravel footpath leads downhill to cross the Hyndburn Brook. This section is surprisingly rural. A slightly hidden, steep cobbled path leads up to the edge of Clayton-le-Moors. The centre is reached via a steady climb up residential streets. At the top is a house which Eric Morecambe once lived in!.
