Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

A very straightforward route that is mostly parkland. I started from Blackheath where the narrow pavements are very busy on a Saturday afternoon. In fact most of the route is busy because of the popularity of the Greenwich area with tourists but there is still plenty of room to walk and worth it for the views.
Easy to cross the A2 as the route leads directly to a Pelican Crossing. The small streets in Blackheath were busy with slow moving traffic and if you find yourself on the wrong side of the road it might be hard to get across but this may just be a weekend problem. Good transport links at either end of the route and plenty of places to get food and drink.

A good route but it goes a bit off piste in Greenwich Park, involves climbing over fences into a grassy area on the hill up to the observatory. See photos of fence (no gate) with grassy area behind.
I’ll remake as Grebla Two, which keeps all the good bits, and corrects the routing up/down the hill to follow official paths and not climb over fences!.

I think the gpx route line is slightly wrong in the park here, you just need to walk a little further east coming from Greenwich and there is a good path up to the observatory

A really nice walk with great views from the top of Greenwich Park. There's a short, steep section in the park, but otherwise very accessible and all on smooth paths or pavement. The only thing to consider is that the park closes at dusk, so in the winter that section of the walk won't be possible in the evenings.

An easy and direct route that crosses Blackheath and Greenwich Park in a fairly straight line before descending into Greenwich. Worth it alone for the view from the park. The suggested route goes through Greenwich Market, which is often busy, but has lots of food stalls and others selling various sorts of merchandise. There are toilets near the park's southern entrance.
