07 Apr 2022 (edited 08 Apr 2022)For logistical reasons, I walked / surveyed this route from Warminster, and whilst I concur with the previous review, because I undertook in April there was no maize, but the field was being prepared for this years crop. I have only given a 2 star rating, because personally I think one section is DANGEROUS, and will not recommend. The pavement section down the A3098 is fine, but at Rodden Road, the pavement disappears, and you are required to walk down a BUSY two lane road ( Styles Hill ), with no pavement and past a blind bend. ( see photo )
I was not prepared to do this, and undertook an alternative along Rodden Rd, down path into Hillside Drive, across New Rd, down Ellworthy Close, and River Walk rejoining the original route there. I will upload this as Frowar two.
I was also slightly uncomfortable crossing the two lane VERY BUSY A361, which does has good visibility, but one should not dawdle going across here ( see photo )
An alternative to this, is from Rodden Church : walk up the tarmac road, joining the A3098 which crosses over the A361, and has pavement all the way down Styles Hill.
I recorded the route on GPS at 8.38 mi.

06 Oct 2021The route was theoretically good based on the maps however in practice there were some difficulties. Heading from Frome the paths were in good order with signage, good gates etc until Corsley Mill. Thereafter there were some diversions, poorly maintained gates and an impassable densely sown field of maize. This I managed to skirt around and will of course I due time be cut. I do get the impression that the landowner is not a lover of footpaths. Only practical to follow the route with benefit of GPS.
