Connect Warminster with Slow Ways
We’re creating a network of walking routes that connect all of Britain’s towns, cities and national parks
more walks and reviews are needed to fully connect Warminster to the verified network. Can you give a hike and help?
Give a hike!Help connect Warminster
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Warminster’s Slow Ways.

Tim Ryan added Maiwar two, a new walk from Maiden Bradley to Warminster
Walk this routeInformation from Longleat House indicates that the main drive between the house and Horningsham although open to cyclists is not accessible on foot. Therfore a large section of the route from Longhedge past the house and the driveway are out of bounds to walkers. Not sure about wheelchair users....
Tim Ryan
I completely agree with the previous reviews, the section down into the valley near Upton Cow Down is very steep in places - and I can talk from previous experience that it can get a little slippy, though it was fine today....

This is a fantastic way to walk between Westbury and Warminster....
panifex
The walk followed the river until it turned off into an housing estate which caused some confusion, however having crossing the A361 open countryside beckoned and despite fields with cows and ‘Beware of the Bull’ signs the walk was pleasant. As mentioned in previous report by Brian the footpath had been altered around Heath House Farm which caused confusion. The walk continued over fields and excellent views of Cley Hill until the outskirts of Warminster where the remainder of the walk was along pavements along a busy road for 1.75 miles to the centre of Warminster...
Pete
I walked this route from Warminster, and it is generally a very pleasant route, following pavement, and field tracks with sections of quiet roads, and fields with crops....
Brian
The pavement section down the A3098 is fine, but at Rodden Road, the pavement disappears, and you are required to walk down a BUSY two lane road ( Styles Hill ), with no pavement and past a blind bend....
Brian
Having undertake the survey, I found the section from the water treatment works up to the Imber Trail challenging....
Brian
I am aware an alternative route is possible through cropped fields to Upton Scudamore, but I recollect this has stiles and a railway line to cross....
Brian
Heading from Frome the paths were in good order with signage, good gates etc until Corsley Mill....
Gareth Hiscock
A very pleasant and not too long walk up onto the edge of Salisbury Plain with views across surrounding vales....
Iang299
Narrow parallel to golf course in Warminster and a steep valley between Field Barn and Upton Cow Down, neither sections suitable for wheelchair users (although there are longer bridle path alternatives marked on OS that could be friendlier for wheels.) Lovely for getting to the White Horse and Bratton Camp. Often windy but wild flowers are lovely in Spring/Summer....
