Description
An alternative route to Fliamp one, that takes another route to/from Amphill across fields to the east of Flitwick to reduce pavement walking alongside busy roads.
Note, there are accessibility issues similar to Fliamp one for wheelchairs (narrow gaps in fields/ by crashbarriers, camber etc (minimum path width ~c. 25cm , but otherwise a pleasant walk with few issues. One to keep an eye on is the path as it approaches Maulden Road, the farmland has a walkable path currently alongside the road, but this may change in the future. Walkers seem to be accomodated along this section with paths across ditchworks that have been dug to prevent vehicular access

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

02 Oct 2022A lovely walk, leading across the fields near Flitwick, after which there is a road crossing which could be tricky in high traffic. Walk continues across fields and residential parts of Ampthill.

30 Aug 2022This is an alternative route to Fliamp one, with more field walking and less pavement trudging, at little extra expense distance wise (0.6km, 7mins extra according to OS Maps).
From Flitwick station you walk along the High Street road north but instead of Fliamp one, turn right onto the Ridgeway, a residential area of old and new terrace houses. Quickly you leave the tarmac for grit and loose aggregate onto the Greensand- Chiltern link bridleway.
Continue for best part of a km, during which you walk out on the fields NE of Flitwick near the well hidden Industrial Estate. This field has been reworked to prevent occupation by vehicles, the path is ok but camber and erosion would make it tricky for all but off road wheelchairs..
On approach to Maulden Road, things get a little less clear, as the trail isn't marked on the ground and the map says it follows the road north. Luckily the farmer has allowed a path to develop alongside the road, but as you approach the roundabout the path crosses the ditchwork and is narrow, and this narrow theme continues as you need to get any wheels through a ~30cm gap (not measured) to be able to get to the roundabout. Here, one road crossing of the A507 later you continue following the Bunyan trail (as it is now marked) across a field, the youth pitch of Ampthill FC and into cloisters and estates of Ampthill. The route needs careful following from here in with a app or map, with one cut through that is hard to find (Cherytree Lane to Spring Close) and only gets easier once at the allotments and Kings Arms Path (which leads you to the street at Church St.) Here you can get onward travel via the bus stop near the post office, or rest at one of the many pubs or cafes if they are open.
