08 Oct 2023I agree with Mtormey - this is a great route. It's relatively flat, and is on a variety of terrain - gravel pits at Standlake, the Thames Path after Newbridge, and a variety of tracks, farmland and roads thereafter. The roads are generally pretty quite and safe: while the route does follow the A420 for about 100 metres, the verge is reasonably wide and level. One other thing to mention about a road is that at Newbridge (about 2km out from Standlake, where the route crosses the Thames) the road isn't hugely busy but because the bridge is traffic light controlled, the cars come in groups.
It's not recommended for anything with wheels - there are relatively few gates or stiles, particularly considering the length, but the ground is frequently uneven and could be muddy.
One of the pleasant things about the route is the way it alternates between countryside and villages: on the subject of which, the route passes near the Lamb in Buckland, and the Blue Boar in Longworth. For the latter, opening times may be at the management's discretion, so it would be best to check first.
I encountered only one tricky turn walking west - at grid reference SU318973, the OS map implies that the footpath continues on the northern edge of the field you're in. It doesn't - you need to cross over the stile at that point.

12 Jun 2021Great route! Loved the walk across the countryside. The views were fantastic. The path was great. Totally recommend. On approach to Faringdon, I diverted so that I could go to the Folly Tower and approach the town from the south side of London Street. Awesome Slow Way.
