Description
This is probably the *nicest* route between Ash Vale and Farnborough.
It follows the canal between Frimley Green and Ash Vale, and uses a nature reserve to get between Farnborough and Frimley Green.
There is a more direct footpath but it is noisy (due to A331), and there is also a road route should speed of travel be the goal.
Frimley Green has facilities, as do Farnborough and Ash Vale. This route passed very close to the Basingstoke Canal visitor centre, where there is a campsite and cafe.
If you don't fancy walking in the woods, just pick up the canal and follow that instead (it's a little shorter, too)

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

16 Mar 2024I can only concur with other reviewers. The towpath along the canal was passable even after a spell of a wet weather. My only concern would be crossing the railway lines in a foggy weather where one needs to rely on the sounds of approaching trains.

29 Sep 2021Quite a nice route this one, even the parts through the built up areas are OK.
There are a couple of on foot rail line crossings to make ( usually manned ) at Farnborough north and an unmanned one just be Frimley green but visibility is good on both.
This route can be shortened slightly be either joining the canal at Guildford road or staying on the Canal if coming from Ash vale. Both routes are nice. Most of the route is on paths made up on the canal and designated dirt through the woods.
A route I will use quite often. There is a campsite run by the Basingstoke canal authority on route too.

22 Jul 2021It is the more 'nature' route between Farnborough and Ash Vale and a walk through the woods parallel to the canal is nice, the canal is nice too but is usually a bit busier especially with Saturday Morning park runs.
There is a useful convenience shop at Frimley Green.
It is not the shortest route, but I think the most enjoyable.
