Description
This route corrects the inaccurate start of PolFal One, and continues along the canal a bit further. I walked it with Wellchoughed, who did an excellent, on-the-hoof job of creating the route through the off-road paved areas of Hallglen Estate, and then through Callendar Wood

13 Nov 2023Review of Slow Ways Route Falpol two (Falkirk to Polmont)
I reviewed this route as it was being created by Mary Oz, after the alternative route (Falpol one) was found to be impassable. I walked the route in reverse (i.e. from Polmont to Falkirk). The first part of the route through Polmont is simple enough, with the access point to the canal towpath clearly identified on the route map. There is then another simple (but very pleasant) section along the canal-side with views all around. The towpath is left at NS89427817 and follows a tarmac path downhill, across a footbridge and under a railway bridge to emerge at the Hallglen Estate. The route then picks its way through the buildings, making use of a network of access paths (with several flights of stone steps) before taking a right turn at a children’s playpark. A good path then leads into Callendar Woods. After about 100 metres, the packed earth path turns left onto a tarmac path and this is followed downhill, past disused kennels and onto Kemper Avenue. Crossing this road leads to another good path which snakes between blocks of housing to emerge on Woodside Terrace. It is then a simple task to follow Cow Wynd down to High Street and then to Glebe Street and the end of the route. Overall this is a simple route, well-mapped and easy to follow. It makes good use of the canal towpath and other off-road paths. The canal is pleasant to walk along and Callendar Woods is also an attractive area of greenery in an otherwise built landscape. Happy to recommend this one.

13 Nov 2023We left Polmont along the B810 until reaching a side road immediately before the canal, which took us down to the towpath, and an easy and pleasant walk for two and a half miles.
We turned off the towpath to head towards Hallglen Estate on an easy footpath under the railway and over a footbridge to the road. Weaving through the Hallglen Estate was surprisingly straightforward, along off-road paved paths, and up several sets of stairs.
Walking through Callendar Wood was particularly lovely in the autumn low sun, and we were all too soon out the other side. At least we had a few glimpses of views over Falkirk between the trees, before walking the last few streets through the shopping centre to the end of the route.
Perhaps it is a bit longer than it needs to be, but a very pleasant route overall.
