Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

30 Apr 2021 (edited 27 Jun 2023)Unfortunately the first part of Fox and Hounds Lane in Themelthorpe is impassable for walkers, cyclists or horses at the moment. However, there is a strong local campaign going on, which aims to restore this unsurfaced County Council maintained road for the use of all road users, possibly to the exclusion of motorised vehicles. Once that's solved the route from Reepham to Foulsham would get 5 stars from me.
From Sennowe Park the route, as it stands, follows the old Sustrans No 1, which was at least under review because from Gt Ryburgh the road is frequented by lorries and then follows a fairly narrow busy road in and out of Fakenham.
In my view a northerly route from Foulsham via Wood Norton, Stibbard and Snoring would be longer but more pleasant, although mainly on roads.
There are problems with this route, some of which might be resolved before long, and it's therefore difficult to grade it. It's more suitable for cyclists than anyone else in it's present format but there is lots of DMMO research going on, which I'm sure will unearth forgotten footpaths too. Potentially a fantastic route but it needs work.

09 Jul 2024To provide an update Fox and Hounds lane is now open and passable for walkers and cyclists as and off road route rather than a cycleway. However to clarify my previous review this route in current form is a no go. From where it leaves the B1110 in Guist to where it joins the public road to Great Ryburgh is private property. The initial public footpath is a dead end unless you take the path back past Norris's Plantation to the old cricket pitch and the A1067. As the other review said for Cyclists follow the Sustrans Route 1 which is signposted, or cut north from Foulsham through Stibbard Fulmodeston and the Snorings. I have cycled both routes many times.
