25 Mar 20224 star route only missing the final star for two reasons. The first is that the last section in Loanhead doesn’t exist in reality but there are multiple options to cover that part. The second is that the pavement along Pentland Road is narrow and mainly only suitable for walking single file and not for wheeling (photos 1&2).
There were unexpected bonuses on the walk with encounters with donkeys, alpacas and deer and a small cemetery reputed to be the final resting place of Covenanters following a battle in the 17th century (photo 3).
The planned route directs you down Park Avenue which becomes a potholed path (photo 4) to a private property as the sweeping path on the map that should take you to the cycle path to Roslin doesn’t exist. The most direct route to the finish would be to follow the main road, The Loan. It’s also possible to go down Park Avenue until you reach the park, and use that as a quieter option although getting into the park can be a bit muddy and uneven, or narrow at the final entrance as it is limited by access through large logs.
