Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

22 Apr 2022I really enjoyed walking this route. The only reason I don’t give it 5 stars is because it does rely on a seasonal ferry, although getting the ferry does add to the overall experience.
The walk is lovely & peaceful, being traffic free (except at each end) & makes more easy walking than the routes on the east bank. It follows cycle path beside the canal for the most part. There are parallel footpath sections in places which give a change of surface/character if preferred.
Various refreshment options en route & good transport links.

06 Feb 2022I love walking and running alongside the Exe.
This is a great way to walk between Topsham and Exeter.
You will need to get the ferry across the Exe to complete the journey, but this only adds to the pleasure if you've got the time and can afford the ticket.
The routes that run alongside the other bank of the Exe use some narrow paths with steep steps. This side of the river has flatter and easier paths.
The Double Locks pub makes a good resting place in the middle(ish) part of the route.
