Description

This is a beautiful and thoroughly enjoyable route. Quite possibly the best way to travel between Exeter and Ottery St Mary!

I successfully walked Exeott One yesterday and flagged it for a couple of safety issues. I've created this route to deal with those two issues and for someone else to do an initial check. I'm hoping that Bishop's Court Lane to the north of Clyst St Mary is safe enough to walk. Ideally the council would make it safe to walk the 200 metres along the A3052 between Hill Pond and the Cat & Fiddle

Exeott One also involves a fair amount of walking alongside busy roads in Exeter. This way is slightly further but make use of the river and some parkland instead of B roads. I think someone could design another route option that is more direct but uses quieter roads in Exeter.

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

Well done for creating this route. It's clearly the best way out of Exeter, even if it's a bit longer. The quayside was lovely, and it connected the parks to make you feel well out of the city in a short distance. There was a slight problem with a locked gate meaning I needed to cut up to Topsham Road a little before the route given. The less pleasant suburban stretch as far as the M5 crossing is, I think, unavoidable - and at least it enabled me to recharge at Costa's! Bishop's Court Lane had some traffic but was not a bad route, and soon became very quiet. Before Aylesbeare there are some issues with muddy farm gates, but otherwise the footpaths were not too wild (for early summer). I left the route to head south towards Sidmouth, so did not complete the last part north to Ottery. But overall a very pleasant walk with some lovely countryside, clear route and quiet minor roads.
