Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

20 Oct 2022 (edited 30 Jun 2023)Not a bad route, but there's a lot on roads, albeit quiet ones. EltSid 2 is mainly off road, more attractive and quieter, going along the Shuttle Riverway. I'd recommend it instead. This route is a little fussy at the Eltham end and a bit monotonous near Sidcup.
The best part is through Avery Hill Park and the wooded old lanes which approach it. The southern one is called Sparrow Lane and you can see a 14th century boundary hedge, or glimpse through it into Charlton AFC's training ground. Sometimes, further north, the paths on the ground, this GPX line and the OS map don't match up, it can be disorienting. Just FYI. And the Green Chain Walk signs are best ignored for this route. If you don't come out at the football grounds, or Butterfly Lane at the north end then you've gone the wrong way.
After the path section of Sparrow Lane ends, it carries on as a quiet road, and the end is quite close to New Eltham Station, where you'll find some small shops, a pub, a cafe and a public toilet outside the library.
