Description

This route starts at the rail station and goes up Selby Road in Eggborough.
It then uses a narrow urban footpath and lane towards Snaith. The route crosses the VERY BUSY A19 TRUNK ROAD and EXTREME CAUTION is required.
Once over the trunk road it is a quiet country lane, followed by a right turn and a track down to the canal side. A pleasant walk beside the lock and then its a left turn and footpath up a hill at the top of which is a right turn along a quiet country lane which reaches a busier road.
The route then heads towards HENSALL passing the school and church before turning right on a long fairly straight road.
A left turn on a footpath leads to a quiet country lane which in turn leads to a footpath on a flood bank. This eventually reaches the bank of the River Aire where the route follows the river to Pick Hill and then goes to a road. This road leads to Snaith, where a right turn passes the church to the final destination

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

  1. Complete the survey training.

I have lived in the area for 17 years so thought i was familiar with all aspects of it . However this took be to places i have never seen before ! The section from Snaith to Gowdall has a good mix of scenery . It was pleasant to see a mixed used of the landscape and great to see working farms in operation . I love architecture . On this aspect there were some real contrasts from old cottages to new builds . Great to see the period change . The only downside is the A19 which needs to be treated with respect and caution . A great walk and would recommend.

The route was enjoyable and overall easy to navigate, except for a misleading large NO ENTRY sign ( with a small footpath sign alongside that is easy to miss). There is also a bridge over a dyke that needs attention. An interesting area on the walk was the canal side at Whitley Lock.

A very pleasant walk with a good mixture of countryside. Good view from High Eggborough. A short walk alongside the canal was good.
I would be happy to walk it again and I am happy to suggest it to other people.

A pleasant walk through the countryside with canal side and river side stretches to enjoy.
