Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

I started this route from Earl Shilton. I was quite hungry so was pleased that it has some good options in terms of both shops and pubs. The route to leave the village has some great views across the surrounding countryside. As you leave the village, you follow a the main road which has no pavement, but the road is straight and the verge is wide. Having crossed a bridge over the A47 you then leave Thurlaston Lane to walk along Earl Shilton Road, a quiet lane with no pavement but with great sight lines and is relaxing enough to able to enjoy the open countryside. The walk leaves the lane to cross a sports ground, a small farm and a field before rejoining. This takes you into the village of Thurlaston where there stopping options. From there the well marked route crosses countryside, including a bridge over the M69. An old railway line is now a cycleway and walkway which gives the last offroad section before pavements take you to the meeting point at Narborough Railway Station. This route is safe, easy to follow and reasonably direct. It's varied and I found it a really and enjoyable walk. There are stiles so it's not wheeling friendly. I'd definitely recommend it.
