Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

The Tay Bridge closes in very windy weather. It is also very boring - over a kilometre of perfectly straight man-made path, down the middle of a dual carriageway, with little change in scenery.

After the Tay Bridge you have to walk along the road for a while unfortunately, but it is a reasonable pleasant and accessible route. The approach to Tayport and Tayport itself are the highlights of the journey.

I did this one a few years ago at the end of a leg of the Fife Coastal Path. A fine, straightforward walk. The bridge is a little tedious, though you may enjoy counting the lamp posts! And the views of Dundee are interesting.

A good one way route with stunning views and snack and toilet facilities at the Tay Road bridge (check for Covid restrictions) and in Tayport. Community cafe at Tayport is fantastic. The path has hard surfacing all the way (although the bridge surfacing is slightly springy). Is busy with cyclists more than walkers - more walkers at the Tayport end. You can get a bus in Tayport to take you back over to Dundee. Good for a short walk any time of the year. The bridge walkway is sometimes closed in high winds - check beforehand as it is a very long detour.

Straight route along the local cycleway - accurate mapping.
