Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

26 Jun 2023I walked this route from Dunfermline city centre to Cowdenbeath this morning, leaving Dunfermline about 9.00 and arriving at almost destination at 11.20. I went a bit off piste as I think I should have turned left at a point where I went straight on, so I walked into Cowdenbeath on the B981 rather than on the Old Perth Road. Then rather than heading for rail station I caught the bus back to Dunfermline.
Took a different path at the start of the walk following recommendation of first review. Good path from the far end of Leys Park Road car park comes out on
Whitefield Road straight across from the pedestrian path to Queen Margaret Station. Keep following road round the estate until you reach a path to the right that becomes Pleasance Road that connects with Hillseat Road and then to Netherbeath Road, which is a broad track with occasional vehicles. If I repeat this route I will try the recommended route into Cowdenbeath, though in that case I couldn't have taken this photo!.

18 Apr 2022This is a lovely route, which is mostly on off road paths and farm tracks.
i would suggest a modification to the start of the route to go along an off road cycle path as opposed to roadside pavement walking. after heading up Holyrood Place, take a right along Leys Park Road (the road before the route suggested Bellyeoman Road). at the end of this road, there is a cycle path that runs parallel to the suggested route but is completely off road. at the end of the cycle path, cross the road and turn onto Queen Margaret Fauld. follow this road around to then rejoin the route at the turn off onto the farm track. we followed the rest of the route as suggested, which is mostly along quiet country paths. at the Hill of Beath, once you have turned off prior to Rose Cottage, the navigation becomes challenging due to recent works which have disrupted the old paths. it's a shame as otherwise this route would be accessible to everyone but this part lets it down with the poor paths and boggy ground. once into Hill of Beath and Cowdenbeath, the route goes among houses and is mostly pavement walking on quiet roadsides.
overall, a lovely route and fairly accessible for all, and even better making the modification at the start to keep the route more off road :).

11 Aug 2023Last Saturday I tried the route in reverse and once again went a bit wrong but this time leaving Cowdenbeath. I took a wrong turn in Hill of Beath, first right instead of second, and ended up on a very narrow rough overgrown path, down through a cow field (with cows) and into a woods, finally by chance picking up Netherbeath Road. From there it was straightforwards though as I recognised the route back. Only one hiccup, on outwards journey all gates were open along this route, but on reverse one was closed and I had to climb through the rails to make progress.
