Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

08 May 2023I walked this route westwards today from Oldbury. Approx. two thirds of the walk is along the towpaths of sections of both Birmingham canals. A really enjoyable route on the whole, with perhaps the only exception being the centre of Dudley (photo 15).
The last section of the mapped route along the canal here is not actually allowed as this short section is privately owned by the 'Dudley Canal & Caravans co.' (photo 12), but the different route is only a 200 metre diversion and as such I don't think warrants a whole new route being created. Immediately behind the gate in photo 12 are the steps up to the Birmingham New Road bridge (photo 13) which you will need to take this diversion.
There are a few steps to negotiate, especially along the canal bridges. There is also a bit of mud on a wet day (photo 14) and a gate or two on the section by the Dudley Living museum, but on the whole i'd definitely recommend this route.
