Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

27 Aug 2024This was an enjoyable walk connecting three attractive Pennine villages in the upper Tame valley, possibly the most scenic corner of Greater Manchester. It initially follows a short section of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal before joining the 'Delph Donkey' a disused branch railway line. This route leaves that path at Dobcross to follow a bridleway through some attractive woodland above the river Tame. Note that parts of this have steps and are quite steep - a more accessible option would be to stay on the 'Delph Donkey' as long as possible and re-join this route at the Old Bell Inn.
The section from Delph to Denshaw is less accessible although easy to follow. Note that the final mile is through a section of water meadow which is likely to be muddy at any time of year. The final section into Denshaw is through a modern housing estate with a heavy neighbourhood watch / CCTV element.
For a slightly more challenging walk I would recommend starting this walk from the station at Greenfield and combining it with DenMar 2. This makes a lovely hill walk of just under 12 miles with return by the hourly train service from Marsden.
