Description
A further alternative for this route. This stays on the west side of the Exe it has a big hill to climb at Newton Wood to the south of Newton St Cyres and is a very pleasant walk. The lanes are very quiet with virtually no traffic . There is a lovely walk through the wood, although muddy in February. The only busy road crossing is on a pelican crossing at Newton St Cyres

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

01 Sep 2023I've just finished walking this route and have walked Creexe 1, 2 and 3.
This is definitely my favourite. You can expect paths, tracks and lots of very quiet lanes. It's by far the hilliest of the three routes - it's also got the best views and the least busy roads.
If you have a choice, I'd walk towards Exeter so you can enjoy the views of the city.
Unlike other reviewers, I had no problems with vegetation. It had all been cut back fairly recently.
I'm going to be walking this one again.
Thanks Tim!.

25 Jun 2023I walked Exeter to Crediton and it was a nice safe walk. There was quite a lot of narrow country lanes, but they were incredibly quiet on the Saturday morning I went.
The section from Nadderwater up to the woods off Rowthorne Road is a steep climb but going down the other sides is easy as a result.
After Newton St Cyres train station the footpath that comes off Lake Lane was overgrown and I was forced to push through the edge of a crop field. It looks like you can continue along Lake Lane instead but the big house had an unfriendly dog and an owner who insisted I turn around.
I would gladly walk this route again but I'd also take Wyke Hill at the Wyke Cross junction. The off road path after was slightly overgrown with nettles etc. and could be bypassed this way.
Those 2 issues dropped it from a 5 to a 4 star, which is possibly harsh as the rest of the route was lovely, including a fun tyre swing in field before Shobrooke!.

08 Feb 2023A very enjoyable and safe route. This differs from other routes between Crediton and Exeter. In that the section between Exeter and Newton St Cyres is, once over Millers crossing, entirely on the west side of the Exe. Thus avoiding the busy A396 and A337 roads. The latter being crossed on a pelican crossing in the village of Newton St Cyres. The downside is that there is a big climb and descent up and over Newton Woods. But this is pleasant walking. The lane is very quiet. When I walked it only one car came past on this 2 mile long section. Like the other 2 options there is an excellent pub, the Beer Engine in newton St Cyres. Care is needed on the unpaved road between the village and the train station at Newton St Cyres. But it is wide and not too busy.
