03 Dec 2021This really is the obvious route between these two towns. It follows the Worth Way, a disused railway line from Three Bridges to East Grinstead which was closed in 1967. The path is consequently flat, straight and has an all-weather surface. It is used by walkers, runners and cyclists all year round. At the Worth end, it is also a bridle path.
There are no stiles or gates, although the route as plotted takes a shortcut at the entrance to Maidenbower, and the chosen path has a flight of steps back down into the old railway cutting. This can be avoided by exactly following National Cycle Route 21, as there is a ramped path from Church Road, Worth back down to the old railway line.
The village of Crawley Down is at the half-way point with a few shops and a café. I didn't see any public loos.
This is a very easy route to follow, it would be impossible to get lost. There is some interesting old railway infrastructure to see along the way. It also passes close by the beautiful Anglo-Saxon church of St. Nicholas at Worth.
The section from Crawley to Three Bridges follows a main road for about a mile, but this is unavoidable.

19 Aug 2021It's a direct route and once on the Worth Way section (between Maidenbower and East Grinstead) you will only be crossing a few roads and not walking on them. Quite interesting on the Worth Way and more varied that some other former Railway Paths have walked on, get views of the fields to either side and good facilities in Crawley Down a few miles in.

19 Aug 2021Should have added that on Balcombe Road the route says to go down to a roundabout and then come back again to go up Street Hill. You can just turn left onto Street Hill from the B2036 Balcombe Road.
