Description

This route is an adaptation of LocKin One, and it avoids a problem section through boggy land and along a dismantled railway line between Cowdenbeath and Auchtertool. There's a diversion from that and the rest has been tweaked slightly including making the GPX a bit more accurate. Almost all the route is now on Fife's Core Paths but in practice just under 50% is road walking, but mostly on quieter roads. From my arm-chair planning this seems like the best option.

Just S of Auchtertool the route crosses a large field with no actual path to follow (after crossing the Bottom Burn). It is a core path though so shouldn't be any issues if keeping to the field edges, the gate out is on the far (E) corner of the field. It's worth taking particular care on the road heading north from Auchtertool which has narrow verges and some tight bends and at the B9157 crossing at Kilrie.

There aren't any places to stop and buy food mid route as the Tiel Restaurant in Auchtertool has been closed since around 2018. There is a cafe in the Ecology Centre on Kinghorn Loch, but that is only a mile or so outside Kinghorn.

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.
