Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

02 Dec 2023Excellent. Fairly easy navigation, Nice and safe with stunning views. A superb walk as is or two if broken at Ambleside.

22 Mar 2022This is a beautiful walk with stunning views of Windemere from both Todd Crag and High Skelghyll, and visiting the very pretty village of Hawkshead.
It is a long walk taking about 8 hours plus stops but there are plenty of pleasant opportunities for refreshments, and you can do it as 2 legs stopping at Ambleside.
I got a bit lost in Grizedale forest, not due to a lack of paths, but due to a multiplicity of them eventually having to stay as close as I could to a compass bearing. Otherwise the route was quite easy to navigate.

02 Dec 2023There can be no doubting the quality of this walk. A great, classic route scenery superb, nice and safe, some great route choices. Made for a great day out or maybe two! The only doubt I have is whether it is one or two routes being as it passes through the hub of Ambleside. My opinion is that divided into two there would (and will) be two excellent 5 star routes taking just about the same line This doesn't alter the fact that it is an excellent route and I would happily walk it again. As a summer option I will be posting a route which crosses Windermere by ferry from Low Wray to Brockhole and this avoiding Ambleside and so being one route. However it would be summer only because of the ferry.
