Cowbridge to Colwinston.

Leaving Cowbridge there is a nice off road section winding around the edge of the town into Llanblethian. During this section is the only steep gradient for a short section climbing up a wooded ridgeway.

It was nice to see the impressive church is Llanblethian and then to walk along the road with views to the south.

At the end of the road you hit a junction and the newly refurbished Cross Inn that’s well worth a quick stop for food/refreshments.

Crossing the Llantwit Major road can be a little tricky but safe.

The next country lane meanders across the countryside broadly parallel to the A48 until you reach Llysworney. There is another fairly busy road (the last of the walk) where care is needed. Once crossed there is another pub and a beautiful village green, village pound and church that are well worth visiting.

Following the meandering road again it’s fairly flat until you reach the village of Colwinston with yet another pub and historic church to visit.

It’s recommend for those on wheels as it’s mainly tarmac’d and fairly flat.

It’s safe, easily navigable and accurate. I would walk it again.

Returning to the walk, follow the road.

02 Dec 2023 Autumn

December 2023. Direction: Cowbridge to Colwinston.

A lovely walking route, mostly through lanes (Photo 1), but also a nice bit of woodland coming out of Cowbridge. The lanes had very little traffic, and except for the short stretch leaving Llysworney, it was mostly long straight lengths, so safe enough when the odd vehicle came by. The only section not suitable for wheeling was the section through the wooded areas between Cowbridge and Llanblethian church.

31 May 2022 Spring

This route starts in the village of Colwinston, it took us out onto country lanes with views over open rolling countryside. Although we were on tarmac the lanes were very quiet traffic wise and we passed through several small picturesque villages, with lovely ponds, architecture and churches to admire. The route then took us off road along some lovely footpaths and finally into Cowbridge. Route was really pleasant and easy to follow. Suitable for most abilities.

Nice route, although almost all on road. We ran it as part of the Slow Ways Swarm, May 2022
The roads are all quiet lanes with nice views, pretty villages and some *very* posh houses! No pavements, but the few drivers we met were all courteous and polite.
The footpath section after the church at Llanblethian is lovely, just follow the main path through the woodland and enjoy it!
Easy to navigate and well mapped. Recommended.
