I walked this route from Worksop in November. It begins with a walk through the town centre - with pavements and part pedestrianised. From the edge of Worksop there are field paths all the way to Whitwell. The route through Whitwell is tricky navigationally. From Whitwell there are a couple of miles of field paths across Whitwell Common, before entering Clowne with a short stretch on the pavement alongside the A619, followed by a lane and the Clowne Greenway (an old railway). Interestingly my GPS showed that it was steadily uphill most of the way ! It was a nice route and easy to follow.

A good, direct route that makes for a very pleasant walk between Worksop and Clowne. The route is easy to follow and the terrain is simple but charming. I will be using this route in the future.

A county walk with stiles and cattle two busy roads to cross unaided and a level rail crossing. Most road walking is on pavements just a short section without. Shops and buses at Whitwell but route does not visit rail station. I would suggest the meeting place in Worksop be moved to the town.

The rail station is very much out of town to the north so it's a half mile to the shops and bus station. The route continues south along Bridge Street then heads off through a modern housing estate. The bypass marks the boundary between town and country, there are no lights or central reservation to cross the busy road but the visibility is good.

A pleasant field edge walk with cattle and a view across to Worksop Manor. The path leaves the track to New Farm but the cross field section was invisible. It appears locals walk down the field edge to a track which was well walked. At Birks Farm we pass into Derbyshire before walking to the north and missing Hodthorpe, although development is bring the village to the footpath. The footpath level rail crossing is well maintained and again visibility good.

Whitwell needs navigational care to find the jitty. A Co-op shop is just off route and buses to Clowne and Worksop here if required. Evidence of mine workers here with massive chimneys on the original retirement bungalows to consume the concessionary coal. The next cross field path is only marked out by use so hope you are not the first visitor after cultivation.

A short section of pavement along Sheffield Road leads to Clowne then that short section of minor road without pavement. This route avoids some road walking, using the Linear Park which runs just to the south of the cycle route, both along disused railways.

The approach to the meeting place outside Tesco is along a road of local shops.
