Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

21 Aug 2022A county walk with stiles and cattle two busy roads to cross unaided and a level rail crossing. Most road walking is on pavements just two short sections without. Shops and buses at Whitwell but route does not visit rail station. I would suggest the meeting place in Worksop be moved to the town. Road walking at Clowne is avoided by Clowor-2
The rail station is very much out of town to the north so it's a half mile to the shops and bus station. The route continues south along Bridge Street then heads off through a modern housing estate. The bypass marks the boundary between town and country, there are no lights or central reservation to cross the busy road but the visibility is good.
A pleasant field edge walk with cattle and a view across to Worksop Manor. The path leaves the track to New Farm but the cross field section was invisible. It appears locals walk down the field edge to a track which was well walked. At Birks Farm we pass into Derbyshire before walking to the north and missing Hodthorpe, although development is bring the village to the footpath. The footpath level rail crossing is well maintained and again visibility good.
Whitwell needs navigational care to find the jitty. A Co-op shop is just off route and buses to Clowne and Worksop here if required. Evidence of mine workers here with massive chimneys on the original retirement bungalows to consume the concessionary coal. The next cross field path is only marked out by use so hope you are not the first visitor after cultivation.
A short section of pavement along Sheffield Road leads to Clowne then those short sections of minor road without pavement one before and one after the Linear Park entrance. The approach to the meeting place outside Tesco misses local shops.
