Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

28 Feb 2022The first half of the route from Clayton-le-Moors is canal towpath (accessed via a cycle barrier) and an uphill footpath. The canal towpath is very pleasant, with an interesting wharf and roving bridge, before bridging under the M65. The footpath leaves the canal at the swing bridge, and is partially concreted which provides easy going and good open views. There is unavoidable motorway noise though.
The footpath comes out by a nice big churchyard. After passing a secondary school the route turns down through a pleasant housing estate where the view into Accrington and its viaduct opens out. It then proceeds down through a retail park, mostly avoiding the main road before reaching the town centre and station.
