Description
There are 2 differences between this route and Chucae1:
1) NE of Taffs Well, it crosses a parallel hill with clearer footpaths. East of Craig-yr-Allt (Rockwood Riding Centre) there's a quiet road.
2) In Caerphilly, it goes along St Martin's Road and Watford Road instead of across the golf course. The access point to the golf course is marked on Watford Road, but the route isn't the one shown on the OS map: there's certainly no access across the school grounds and I couldn't see any footpath markers near the entrance to the golf course. No one told me I was trespassing, but it would be simpler to stay on the road

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

02 Nov 2024October 2024. Direction: Church Village to Caerphilly.
This walk has some varied scenery along the way, going through a variety of landscapes. It was a bit of a mud bath in parts though, especially going up the mountain from Taffs Well towards Caerphilly, despite it being fine day after a reasonably dry period.
Just a couple of minor access issues along the way. At Ty Newydd Farm, where there was no marked footpath after leaving the road, I ended up going right through the middle of the farm buildings - not sure if this was the right way or not, but the route map seems to lead that way. In the fields after leaving Taffs Well. There is some intermittent signage, but it`s easy to take a wrong path here. Finally, after reaching the final field before getting out on to Watford Road (A469) on the outskirts of Caerphilly, the path after the style is completely overgrown, but there is another one just a short way up the hill, which comes out opposite the path leading into the housing estate.

05 Jan 2022 (edited 08 Jan 2022)This route follows mostly well-marked paths across fields, with great views of the surrounding area. The Garth and/or Craig-yr-Allt could be climbed with just a short detour. Some parts can be very muddy, but otherwise it’s a nice route with only minor access issues:
1. South of Church Village, the path across the Dryscoed property is clearly marked but when it joins the road there's an automatic gate. I climbed over it, but I think walkers are supposed to press the button on the metal posts to activate it. If walking towards Church Village, this gate will look like a private entrance, but it is a right of way - the footpath markers start nearer the buildings.
2. Across the road from Dryscoed at Ty Newydd, if approaching from the road stay to the right of the buildings - there's a stile behind the barn (rather obscured, up a steep slope).
