Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

25 Apr 2024From Adlington Station we very quickly reached the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, which made up the bulk of the route. Access was via three steps, a cobbled slope, and an A-frame cycle barrier. There were lots of boats, and lots of bluebells and other wild flowers along the banks. It was a very pleasant walk, although the sound of the M61 became apparent towards Chorley.
Leaving the towpath involved chicane cycle barriers and a slope, or else a flight of steps. The route into Chorley was along quiet roads with shops and a pub towards the station, then an easy subway under the railway. Chorley town centre had lots of different facilities that you might need. Frederick’s Ice Cream, about half way, appears to offer light lunches as well as ice cream, and has useful opening hours.
An excellent route.

18 Jun 2023Quiet roads from Chorley towards the canal, only crossing one busier road which wasn't a problem. Towpath surface very walkable and ok for a bike. Quiet and away from traffic, safe, would walk again so 5 stars.

17 Jun 2023I cycled this route on my gravel bicycle, would of been a great to walk also. Nice & dry as walked in Summer, but majority of the path was tarmac, so would be suitable in winter also.
Loved the route, scenic canal path. With lots of refreshment stops & shops on-route.
Passing an eco-refill shop, that sells shampoo bars etc & take-away tea & coffee. Pub stops & Fredricks ice-cream shop.
I would enjoy walking this route again & recommend to others.
Accesible & suitable for everyone.
