Description
A slightly longer route but avoids the tricky crossing of the Caterham Bypass as there's a footbridge over the A22 at Tupwood Lane. The rest of the route follows the North Downs Way to Oxted Downs. Doesn't go through Woldingham village so you need to stock up with drinks etc. in Caterham!

24 Oct 2023Beautiful route through quite a bit of woodland with some lovely views at various points throughout the walk. I'm giving it 5 stars because this is the kind of mixed terrain I love to walk on, but unfortunately it's not accessible for wheels.
Some notes:
- If it's been wet there are some parts where care needs to be taken for safety because of mud and slippery surfaces.
- There are some steep parts
- A few places with steps, including one surprisingly long section of steep, uneven steps, but there is a good handrail to steady yourself
- There is also a section where the chalk is very slippery even with good boots.

22 Oct 2023We walked from Caterham to Oxted on a rainy day.
What a beautiful route through beech tree woodland, with huge old trees, past vineyards and through fields. Fantastic views, even through the drizzle, hardly any roads to cross or walk along.
I knocked off one star - slightly less direct, motorway noise (inescapable in this area), and some paths were quite steep and slippy (chalk can be when it's wet). Small negatives on a very lovely route. Benches to stop at regular intervals and admire the views. We took advantage of picnic tables by a removals depot as a lunch stop. We saw deer in the woods and fields. Fungi, birds, and hedgerows as well as magnificent trees. North Downs way is well sign posted.
Steep and narrow paths, gates and kissing gates, uneven ground and long flights of steps make this unsuitable for wheels. Walking stick or poles recommended in wet wintry weather to help with traction.
I'd love to do this again on a fine day to see the views again.

29 Sep 2022 (edited 09 Feb 2023)A fairly steep climb out of Caterham along a quiet residential road before joining the North Downs Way which is well signposted. Crosses the busy A22 by bridge (cycle route 21). There are two sets of steps - one quite long flight nearer to Oxted - but the path is generally firm and easily walked. Good views south from the Downs and several benches to stop and enjoy. A much better route than Catoxt two which it joins at the bottom of Oxted Downs although it's nearly two miles longer.
