Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

30 Jul 2022This is close to being a 4/5 star route but the routing on Oxsted Downs is not safe, and could lead one into a tricky/dangerous spot if followed. The footpath marked on the maps going diagonally up/down the escarpment doesn’t really exist in real life, except perhaps as the ghost of a memory when the light catches it. It may be just about possible to make it out walking up the hill, but if you are at the top looking down it simply isn’t there, and the hill is too steep and ground too uneven to make following the line on the map a safe decision.
I will put up a new route option when I’ve fully reccied the area, probably to the west of the current routing. Other than this the route is a nice one!.

02 Oct 2021Good route. Minimal roads, all of which are quiet. No facilities en-route.
Only suitable for those who can manage steps. Parts are on uneaven paths through woodland.

12 Aug 2022I've added Catoxt three which avoids crossing the A22 and the problem you've highlighted on Oxted Downs, although it's a little longer!
