Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

24 May 2024I wanted to walk from Castleford to Sherburn but I noted both routes were flagged as "Do not use" because of needing to cross the A1M. I tried an alternative which worked ok. It mostly follows Casshe Two but differs as follows:
I propose a detour east to the visitor centre in the Fairburn Ings RSPB reserve. It has a shop and drinks and then leads to a direct scenic bridle path north to Ledsham.
After Ledsham, on reaching the A63, follow it north until you are opposite the opening for Westfield Lane. Care and patience are needed, but after the A63 you are then on a lane which crosses the motorway and takes you direct to South Milford.
To avoid the traffic here you can turn left onto the rough track marked Whin Lane for a quiet and safer route to the village and on to Sherburn.
This route is practicable but I am not a local so others may be able to improve on this suggestion.

30 Apr 2021Do not use this route, the footpath that appears to go over/under the A1(M) does not. The upgraded A1(M) intersects this footpath and makes it impassable.
