Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

23 Jan 2023A safe, varied and enjoyable route. A section of it by the Excel Arena is temporarily closed but having diverted around to the other side I can vouch for the connection and it was not worth a fail. The meandering route through a residential area in North Woolwich at the end seemed rather pointless when we walked it on a Saturday afternoon as the main, direct road was not busy at all. Overall though, this a well conceived and plotted route.

17 Jan 2023Enjoyable route. It's dominated by big roads, overhead DLR tracks, City Airport and large buildings from the Tate and Lyle factory, the Dome/O2 across the river, and the increasingly larger and more tightly packed towers towards Canary Wharf but this gave some spectacular views as the sun slowly dropped behind them on a bright, crisp winter day.
There were some building works at Trafalgar Way/Charter St (pedestrian diversion but fairly trivial) and a larger one just east of the Excel Centre, longer diversion via Victoria Dock Rd (but there was a map).
The (longish) stairs mentioned are from Myers Walk to Trafalgar Way, you could just stay/keep on Trafalgar Way from a little way east where the route is again on T. Way.
The route was well mapped - makes it so much easier to follow a (neccessarily) twiddly route like this. But developments are inevitable along the whole route. There was just one weird glitch - at the Trafalgar Way/Prestons Rd/A1261 roundabout. Don't cross Trafalgar Way (after/before Victoria Dock) just to cross back almost immediately, it's obvious on the map though, and not even possible right now anyway - more building works!.

05 May 2022A nice route along the regenerated docks. No access issues.
As the east end of Canary Wharf is a construction area, routes might be altered occasionally.
After passing the Excel exhibition centre, the route moves into the residential/industrial area which might be less interesting but certainly recommend the route.

24 Aug 2021Very nice route to walk. Not the most direct, but it goes along the water a lot of the time and along some nice back streets. Felt safe throughout. Only significant access issue is that right towards the end there are steps up onto a bridge - I couldn't see an alternative way up.
